A few weeks ago I became a Christmas present! Well, kind of. Beverly asked me to take family photos, which were a Christmas present for her mum and dad. The family was such fun to work with and the three girls were just adorable!

Lis & Paul Engagement Photo - Grand Cayman

Lis and I have been friends ever since I moved to Grand Cayman and I was very excited to photograph her and Paul's engagement.

Paul and Lis have know each other for quite some time through the local running club. Having been in other relationships though they didn't really take notice of each other. When they finally did the sparks were as bright as the stars over the Caribbean Sea.

Only a few months later they got engaged and I was right there with my camera. Paul asked me to secretly take photos while he proposes to Lis. How could I say 'no'? We had scouted out the location before hand and on the day, I was hiding in the bushes.

A few weeks later we met up in Camana Bay for their engagement session. Lis looked radiant and Paul was sporting a three day beard ... just because Lis loves it.

This photo was taken on the night when Paul popped the question. It was magical!

We had the idea of hiring some bikes for their photo shoot since both are active Triathletes. I love these beach cruisers.

A Whirlwind Affair

On the morning of Allison and Chad's wedding, I was a little worried. The Cayman Islands experienced a Nor'Western. The weather system makes for some spectacular waves and unfortunately comes with some rain as well .... you can see why I was worried.

It turns out I shouldn't have been! Allison and Chad were so laid back and didn't even run for cover as it started to drizzle a little. This may have something to do with Chad's job ... he is a meteorologist. I think he quite enjoyed the stormy sea.

Chad and Allison celebrated their wedding with their parents at the The Wharf, a premium waterfront restaurant. A beautiful setting and some great culinary delights.

Intimate Wedding at the Ritz-Carlton, Grand Cayman

Jodie and Shawn had the dream of getting married on the beach. What better beach can you get than the one outside of The Ritz-Carlton, Grand Cayman?

They were such a fun couple to work with. Shawn has a Batman logo inside his wedding band, which Jodie had engraved as a surprise for him.

and the cake... the beach chairs are too cute. The Ritz-Carlton has a talented pastry chef with creativity and every cake is always unique.

Above is when Jodie revealed the Batman logo on the inside of Shawn's wedding ring. It was a special moment and we all laughed about how surprised and delighted he was.

Family Portraits on Seven Mile Beach

The Rockwell family was just adorable when I met them on our most famous beach here in Grand Cayman - Seven Mile Beach.

The youngest generation of the family solely consist out of beautiful girls. They were so much fun and loved their little photo shoot. I am sure they can't wait to tell all their girlfriends back home all about their experiences here in Cayman. Our photo shoot just being one of them.

I love the elegant Nicole Miller dress that Sancia bought especially for this TtD session. The wedding gown that she wore to her ceremony was very different, in fact exquisite. I love the way the Nicole Miller dress looks wet...

Sunset Beach Wedding

Kristina and Dan exchanged their vows while the sun was setting over Seven Mile Beach at the Ritz-Carlton, Grand Cayman.

The set up at the beach was beautiful and once the sun was down; the lighting, the stars and the moon created the most romantic setting for Kristina and Dan's reception with close friends and family.

Sam & Ali - Cayman Senior Portraits

Sam's mum contacted me with the idea to have their Senior Portrait's taken on a beautiful beach in the Cayman Islands. The Coral Stone Club was the perfect backdrop for this shoot.

Sam and Ali have been friends for over 14 years, all the way through school. So having their photos taken together was such a great idea.

We had so much fun taking these photos. It was like a fashion shoot! Each of the ladies modeled three different outfits. It felt like the sun was going down slower that day.

I hope this beautiful friendship will last forever!

Little Cayman Engagement Photos - Sarah & Daniel

Sarah and Daniel had some trouble getting to the Paradise that is Little Cayman. They eventually arrived a day late but in high spirits.

It was a lovely evening on the island. I love Little Cayman as life is just a bit slower there.

They stayed at the Little Cayman Beach Resort and we planned our shoot on the beach and around the property.

It was raining all day and I got really worried about the photo shoot with Lyn and her family as I knew we could not reschedule to another date. Lyn's brother was leaving the very next day. The rain stopped just in time to capture this amazingly lovely family.

Janelle & Haywood's intimate ceremony at the Ritz-Carlton, Grand Cayman was simply perfect. Just the two of them on the most beautiful beach.

After a few years in San Francisco Janelle moved back home. One of the first things she required was a car. They say 'never to trust a car salesman' ... but this one was different. Not only did Haywood find the perfect car for Janelle, he also won her heart.

Intimate Wedding Ceremony at Ritz-Carlton, Grand Cayman

During the time Rachel and Brett were in Cayman to be married, we were experiencing quite the 'Nor'Wester' along Seven Mile Beach. It sure does make for exciting photos have the waves mixing up the various shades of blue along the sand. Eugenio played the harp for them during the ceremony and when they said "I do", it was followed by grand applause by those watching.

They are both from South America and we were amazed at how much the accents are like local Caymanian accents. At first.... we were sure it was a Cayman wedding.

What a unique idea for a party.... frozen to below zero. NOW.... many clients coming from cooler climates would not think it to be fun, but residents pulled out their winter wear for a night of CHILL.... The bar was made entirely of ice, as was the DJ booth and the shooter glasses. The decor was appropriately chilly blue and lots of cool white. It was pretty sexy!

Overlooking the sea, under the draped gazebo, Amanda and Joshua said "I do". Everyone was always smiling, especially the bride and groom. Her super high heels did not stop her from climbing on the iron shore during the sunset for some couple portraits. After that, everyone had fun, enjoying a great dinner at Grand Old House. Amanda and Joshua went to stay a few days at the Ritz-Carlton, where they phoned us from after we delivered their photos.... thrilled with everything. They were still smiling when we spoke!

Alecia and Brian smiled and laughed... A LOT... even both their parents were having a good time, not stressed over the big day. There were so many cool things I remember about their day. The playlist on the iPod bringing us everything from the Beatles and Johnny Cash to the more recently hip. Brian and Alecia were in different rooms at the Caribbean Club and had nice gifts delivered to each other right before the ceremony.

The next morning... we did a Trash the Dress session on the beach and into the pool... pics to come...

Euan & Chifonda - Grand Cayman Beach Suites

For Euan and Chifonda.... all the paparazzi were out working hard. They were so sweet asking if they were getting in the way, moving when needed and really being a part of the whole experience. It was like being at a celebrity wedding. It was fun, which is why the paparazzi photo below is included.

Photographing a couple's special day is something we value highly. Capturing the special memory is something we are always grateful to be a part of. We know everyone with a camera is feeling the same way and we are happy to share the fun!

Chifonda and the girls all got ready at the Beachcomber, right on Seven Mile Beach, then they headed over to Grand Cayman Beach Suites for the beach ceremony. The make up for all the girls was so well done and Chifonda's girlfriends were so attentive to getting her ready.

Euan was relaxed, proud and confident to see his bride. Who wouldn't be??? She looked amazing. Euan is also a professional photographer (on the other side of the lens for this one)... and when I checked out his website, I was impressed by the quality of his work.

Creating on location family portraits for Christmas does preserve memories, but WOW can it be lots of fun too. We laugh, dance, sing, act a bit silly... but the kids love it and the parents don't mind us making fools of ourselves to get the kids laughing and smiling. These family Christmas photos were made on the South Side of Grand Cayman. Believe it or not... there is still time to order cards. Always best to BELIEVE....

We're not sure if last night was a Nor'Wester, but the waves and wind on Seven Mile Beach were stormy and windy. Not everyone can glow in tough conditions, but Kahina & Joseph were in control and they OWNED the day. The lighting was so even and soft that it enhances a bride's glow. And Kahina shone... let it shine. let it shine. let it shine.

The stormy weather was likely from Hurricane Matthew giving those poor souls south of us a tough time. Thoughts out. Even today we had doors slamming from catching the wind and (probably important) papers flying out the front door.

The Caribbean Club, located on Seven Mile Beach, is where the couple got ready before their ceremony at the Cracked Conch. It was a Jewish religious ceremony, including the signing of a marriage contract called a ketuba. There was the breaking of the glass as well, the groom did that with his left foot and the guests say "Mazel Tov", which means Good Luck.

After the wedding ceremony, Jenny and Josiah spent some time alone after the ceremony, a custom called Yichud, meaning togetherness or seclusion. There was a gorgeous and quiet area at the Cracked Conch for them to share their moment.

They carried this huge block of ice down the beach. No kidding... from the kitchen of the Ritz-Carlton, to the shore of Seven Mile Beach. They filled it with sorbet and ice cream. Love it!

At Taikun, they freshly grind the wasabi. David and I ate dinner at 7 a few nights ago and everything was perfection. Outstanding service and food.

SMORES!! They served gourmet smores with chocolate dipping sauce!

Devon always rocks the sax. Cayman has so many talented local musicians.

What a nice place to chill while the sun sets over the horizon.

This piece of decor from Celebrations was so impressive that it was hard to photograph the entire thing. Details were easier, because it was so mammoth! That is more than design... that is construction work too. Like a building between the two food stations. Most impressive were the yellow flowers above the blue light. They are local flowers from a tree that blooms this time of year in the Cayman Islands.

What a party. Fun! It was a select group of the top-performing travel wholesalers, mainly from the United States, invited to the annual Cayman Islands Tourism Exchange.

The wholesalers were identified and recommended by local tourism operators, the Cayman Islands Tourism Association and the Cayman Islands Department of Tourism.

I'm pretty sure this was a Grand Cayman celebrity wedding and nobody told me! This was just like being on a shoot of an entourage of Hollywood or New York celebrities, movie stars.

Grand Cayman celebrates on the streets every year with a colourful Caribbean parade called Batabano, which was on the same day as Krista and Brandon's wedding. There were good vibes and good energy in the air all day.

The Marriott has unique places to make photos and experiment with light in the hallways. SO cool. Can you believe how brave Brandon is with the MacCaw (I thought it was a parrot and my husband David corrected me!)

Mary Ann and Danika from Celebrations along with all the staff at the Grand Old House were constantly helpful, attentive and gave bridal support that put the entire wedding party as ease. And it shows in the photos! Everyone is SO HAPPY.

DJ Craig rocked the house. The best man and maid of honour gave a very funny and charming speech. Everything went perfectly.

Shivoan got ready at the Westin where David (my husband/photographer) did formal portraits. I joined them (and the groom Brent) for the ceremony at St. Ignatius and a photo session at Camana Bay. I then went off to shoot another wedding at sunset while David went with the couple to the new Tiki Bar on West Bay Road, then to Luca at Caribbean Club where the reception was held. A great day!

Supporting the Arts....

My auction item (family portrait session) was sold for CI$1,500.00 !!

To maximize money to National Gallery.... I agreed to do three sessions, to bring bid total to CI$4,500.00

I'm so proud that local residents with such great taste and esteem place a high value on my photography.

Every year, this event is highly anticipated. The garden tour is spectacular and Ariane Dart is a most gracious host and supporter of the National Gallery.

Only a few photos have captions.... but the elegance of the afternoon is evident in the photos and really need no description.

Half Moon Bay is an amazing place to stay, having butlers and maids take care of all the cooking and cleaning (while we hit the spa, golf course or went rafting).... ahhh.... can't wait to get back!

My husband David on the course. We played in the mini-tournament with Sandy Urquhart, Sidney Coleman, Simon and Candy Wicker, Simon and Babs Barwick, Cameron Graham, and many others.... What a blast

The Fern Tree Spa at Half Moon Bay is where Natalie and I spend a GREAT deal of our time. The private relaxation room is spectacular and the couple's massage with champagne and chocolate covered strawberries are a must!

When not shooting photos, Better Angle invests in the betterment of the Cayman Islands. It is so important to get involved in the community in ways that are not just self-promotional. Everyone needs to be generous with their time, wisdom, integrity and their money.

For 11 years, Melissa Wolfe of Better Angle, has been working with the YCLA Foundation. Many of her mentors are Cayman's most respected leaders, they share a moral compass to team together and steer Cayman and the youth of Cayman in a proud direction.

Cayman Heart Fund - Red Dress Affair

They say when you need something to just get done, then ask a busy person to help. For many years (ahem... decades), Suzy Soto has taken on challenge after challenge and is a real mover and a shaker in the Cayman Islands.

CHF has a wonderful board of Directors that I need to give the credit too!!!! Dr. Yin and Dr. Cridland have done wonders with the Health4youth, the Symposium, the womens luncheon and the Fair as well as help from Dr. Senthil Kumar and KevinDoyle and the treasurer who keeps everything straight, Karen Bodden. Then we had all the volunteers like Charmaine Moss etc.. etc. so it is a lot of people!

Suzy is a rolemodel for women, personally and professionally. She is a rolemodel of mine! And I am proud to call her my friend. :)

Hue & Mike - having a good time!

Hue and Mike had a great time earlier today. I loved their rings - each had an inscription on the inside. Hue's ring was so small that she had to have it custom made.

Families enjoyed the warm sun and we had a great breeze so that nobody was hot. It was a super day!

When not doing professional photography, better angle is involved in spearheading the YCLA (Young Caymanian Leadership Awards), an annual live televised Awards Gala. The black tie event attracts Cayman's top business and community leaders to The Ritz-Carlton, Grand Cayman for an evening to celebrate the five finalists of the YCLA. This year's event was on Saturday, February 20th and it has received rave reviews.

Camana Way Plant Book Launch

Have you ever strolled along Camana Way and wanted to know more about the plants that surrounded you? Camana Way: Plants can now be purchased at Books and Books.

This wonderful field guide is divided into five sections representing the five distinct ecosystems of Grand Cayman, which are beautifully and accurately recreated in Camana Way. Within each of the sections, the plants are organized by:
• Trees and Palms
• Shrubs and Herbaceous Plants
• Vines, Grasses and Groundcovers
Hundreds of native plants are identified with beautiful illustrations and a list of characteristics. Wherever possible, the book describes how each plant was used in the past, and its environmental value to the island.

Jan and Patrick - Royal Caribbean and Cayman Islands Tour Wedding

Jan, Patrick and their family and friends arrived in Grand Cayman on Royal Caribbean and they:

- hopped on a bus to London House

- prepared for the beach wedding

- held their ceremony

- posed for formal portraits

- trashed the dress

- then hopped on the bus to Sunshine Grill for lunch

- then hopped on the bus to Morgan's Harbour to board the Happy Hooker

- went boating out to the Stingray Sandbar

- cut the cake, danced and swam

- boated back, did their toasts

- shopped in George Town

- hopped back on the cruise ship and carried on...

Hospice Care - Flag Days start tomorrow!

I just came back from the home of His Excellency, Governor Duncan Taylor and his wife Marie Beatrice. They were the first to donate to Cayman Hospice Care for the Flag Day Weekend.

Every year dedicated volunteers take Cayman by storm on the Annual Flag Day Weekend. This year is no exception. Bright shirts are worn with pride as collectors take in coins, bills and words of encouragement, while raising funds and much needed awareness for HospiceCare.

Everyone making a donation gets a bright sunflower sticker, which is not only an incentive to others, but also gives fantastic visual confirmation that this en masse style fundraiser is highly effective and fun.

This year they celebrate the TENTH year of Flag Day. Congratulations.

I send out the warmest wishes for a very successful fundraising weekend and encourage everyone to give generously!!

BareFoot Brunch for CITA at Camana Bay

Taste of Cayman and Camana Bay presented this charity brunch in association with Cayman's Culinary Month activities. The restaurants of Camana Bay, Abacus and Ortanique by Cindy Hutson dazzled guests with a selection of dishes inspired by the sun and sea.

This year, the theme was BBQ, Bubbles and Boats. An amazing selection of Veuve champagne, Grey Goose bloody marys and Bacardi mojitos from Cayman Distributors were served. Guests were encouraged to arrive by boat, with the lighthouse School receiving the donation for parking slips.

Seven Mile Beach - Near Record Breaking Low Temperatures

The past few days brought us to unseasonable temperatures reaching the low 60s. That did not stop the McDonnells from having fun on the beach!

Eva was the star today. All the kids were great and I wish them safe travels back to Ireland - see you next time you are in Cayman. I'll work on sorting out the weather!

Well... what a busy Christmas season with professional photography, now comes my busy season as non-profit pubicist and spokesperson. I do spend time donating photography services, but I also gain contract work as a consultant in the non-proft sector. I feel like that constant connection to creativity and social life keeps me sharp when it comes to dealing with photos at any event, large or small. Plus it makes me feel good about contributing to the greater good. Sleeping good at night. Good Karma. All that.

This morning after the wedding of Barbara and Terry, a leap of faith was taken into the Caribbean Sea at Smith Cove, located just south of George Town, Grand Cayman.

I suppose this means that we can have Trash The Dress sessions with then entire bridal party from now on!

Only hours ago, Barbara and Terry got married on the beach in Grand Cayman. They brought their sunglasses so they could get some photos with them on. And it was a good thing - WOW was it sunny today!

Although not an official "trash the dress" session, all whole group did get into mid-thigh deep water. Not too often we see brides wringing out their dress!
